The Power of Accessories

By now, most men care about their clothes, they might perhaps invest in some expensive skin care or even go for the odd facial. They want to look good and most men have gotten past the whole “metrosexual complex”. It’s ok for a man to be fashion-conscious and to care about his appearance, in fact, men are now expected to dress to impress just as women always have. And rightly so, why wouldn’t they, after all, if you look good, you feel good!

Variety is the Spice of Life

It’s pretty obvious that you don’t want to wear the same clothes all the time, no matter how stylish or even expensive they were. You like to vary your clothing and in order to do so, you expand your wardrobe and make sure that you have several good outfits to wear, business or casual or indeed shabby chic. At some point, you run out of space in your wardrobe or maybe out of cash, but you still want to continue to freshen up your look and make an impression when you enter a room. The solution? Accessories!

Accessorize? Me? You Must Be Joking!

Don’t worry, you won’t need to go and buy a thick gold chain, silly hat or expensive cufflinks, in fact accessories include everything from shoes, hats, belts, watches, armbands, ties and bags. Most men do accessorize, they just don’t know they are doing it or how to do it effectively. Women have a much easier job and can get away with just about any accessory as long as it doesn’t clash with the style of their outfit. Men need to tread more carefully though.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Accessorizing

A lot of it is common sense really, choose your accessory to suit your outfit, make it visible but not scream out loud.

Don’t!

  • Wear a hippy necklace over a suit
  • Wear a Rolex with a grunge outfit
  • Wear ridiculous prints just to accessorize
  • Casual bags with suits or briefcases with shabby chic clothes

You see, your accessory must fit in with the rest of your clothing.

Do!

  • Wear stylish sunglasses
  • Show off a trendy watch
  • Wear wooly hats in the winter
  • Wear stylish shoes
  • Invest in a good belt

The right accessories can greatly improve your overall look and can express your personality and individuality.

How to Get Started

The best way to get started is to just become aware of the accessories you are already using. Then, use any natural looking addition such as a bag, good belt or even a hat. Start of discretely, even in such a way that no one will notice. After a while, when you are a comfortable with the process, push the boat out a little and try to accessorize to make a statement. Try a really good watch or a fashionable necklace, choose something that you can use when you are dressed for work as well as when out with friends or your partner. If you love accessories, feel free to stand out, even though it might be best to reserve the red shoes for a night out rather than a first date or a business meeting!

The Power of Accessories

Back to your wardrobe: Good accessories can make boring outfits fresh and exciting, add variety and versatility and allow you to show off just a bit more of your style. Accessories can turn an average set of clothing into a great one and make the difference between ordinary and stylish.
